The VVS or SSB app simplifies planning your journey and purchasing tickets.
No worrying about losing your ticket or making sure you validate it.
VVS vs. SSB
SSB is the company that runs the busses and U-Bahn. VVS runs the S-Bahn. When you purchase a ticket, it is suitable for the U-Bahn, S-Bahn, and busses.
There are only a few differences between the VVS and SSB apps.
-
The SSB app offers Paypal as a payment method.
-
The SSB app does seem to work better for iPhone users.

It is helpful for teenagers traveling alone to have the App as a resource for finding routes and knowing how many zones to purchase at the ticket machine.
Setting Up Your VVS or SSB Account
The pictures are from the VVS app, but the SSB setup is identical.
Paper Tickets
Ticket Validation
To validate your paper ticket, insert your ticket into the slot on the yellow box. You will find the validation boxes near the ticket machine or at the top of the escalators at an S-Bahn stop; on the U-Bahn or bus, the location is near the train or bus doors.
Traveling without a valid ticket or not validating a ticket will result in a fine if checked by a ticket checker.
You must pay the fines on-site in cash.
Tariff Zones
Purchasing paper tickets will require you to know how many zones you will travel through.
Using the app makes finding the number of zones simple.
